In this ReadWriteThink lesson, students experience and develop interest in literature that includes multicultural, gender, and ethnic diversity. After identifying literary elements, students improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating written text in order to categorize text into literary genres. Several pieces of literature appropriate for use with this lesson are suggested.
