June 2007-This report, prepared by the Pew Hispanic Center, assesses the current achievement level of public school English Language Learner (ELL) students based upon the 2005 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP; also known as the “Nation’s Report Card”). The first section of the report examines the achievement gap between ELL students and other groups of students at the national level. The second section examines achievement gaps at the state level using the NAEP as well as information attained through state tests administered in compliance with NCLB.
