Description

This “Afterschool Alert Issue Brief,” prepared by the Afterschool Alliance, focuses on extended learning time. It references research that supports the implementation of extending learning time through the development of quality after school programs as opposed to extending learning time simply by extending the school day. Examples of selected programs throughout the nation that utilize both strategies are included. The quality of the extended time, whether achieved by implementing an after school program or by extending the school day, is identified as the key factor in determining a program’s success. Factors that contribute to a quality program are identified.
