This Science NetLinks lesson, the first of a two-part series on fossils, focuses on what we have learned and can learn from fossils. In the first part of the lesson, students discuss what we know about horses. They then do the same for a Stegosaurus. As students discuss the Stegosaurus, they realize that fossils tell a story about the animal. Once students have an understanding of how to extrapolate facts and ideas from fossils, they do some of their own digging in the second part of this lesson to practice using the thinking skills they've obtained.
