Dr. Yong Zhao
Leading Schools Towards Personalized Learning
Last year, Dr. Zhao spoke to us about the current state of American education in this age of globalization. His talk was so well received we asked him back to talk about where we need to go next. Technology is delivering a new type of hope for our schools, but we need to do some significant restructuring. We don’t necessarily need a complete system overhaul, says Dr. Zhao, but we certainly need to make some important changes to adapt our educational system to today’s students, their needs, and the demands of our national interest.
Dr. Zhao is currently Presidential Chair and Associate Dean for Global Education, College of Education at the University of Oregon, where he also serves as the director of the Center for Advanced Technology in Education (CATE). He is a fellow of the International Academy for Education. Zhao is the author of, Catching Up or Leading the Way, a remarkable book that is changing the debate about what’s wrong and what’s right with American education and where it should be going.
