This resource, from the Illuminations-reviewed History of Mathematics Archive, features biographical information about Arabic mathematician Abu al-Karaji. Although there are mixed opinions on the value of al-Karaji's contributions, some see him as the first person to completely free algebra from geometrical operations and replace them with the arithmetical type of operations which are at the core of algebra today. Links to biographies of other mathematicians are also available on this page.
