Description

This article, from the International Reading Association Web site, describes a word-game strategy that promotes vocabulary development, and helps teach syllables and comprehension of meaningful affixes. In this activity, syllables are written on both sides of several poker chips, and then combined to form new words. The activity was designed with older students in mind, but can be adapted for use in an elementary classroom.
