Description
Reviewed for grades 9-12 by Illuminations, this page is part of a Web site on tiling. Not only is it a good reference for teachers to use for showing students different tessellations, but it also incorporates art from various other cultures. Activities could be developed that engage students in examining the patterns of the tessellations on this Web site. The seventeen plane pattern groups are identified and explained using geometric references. A teacher may challenge students to create a pattern that represents his or her own culture (students may want to think about predominant images in society, traditions within their families, etc. to develop a tile).
