Description

Reviewed for grades 3-5 by Illuminations, this lesson allows students to explore the concept of area and perimeter using an applet. The applet creates random shapes and the students are asked to fill in the area and perimeter in a text field. A worksheet is also provided with the lesson that accompanies the applet to help students see patterns between the gridline intersections (like pegs on a geoboard) and the area and perimeter of a polygon. There are also alternate outlines and extensions to use for the lesson. Less
