Description
This lesson serves as the Introduction to the project and is
geared toward getting students inspired and excited about the
design problem. The Project: Students are asked to come up with a
preliminary design proposal for a client who would like to move his
company offices into an existing barn on a retired ranch. This
project engages the students in a real life example of how
architectural design can have a direct impact on those who interact
with it. Students will prepare preliminary design drawings (revised
site plan, floor plans and elevations) which incorporate specific
design requirements from the client. They will also research
and write a forecast for any potential challenges in the renovation
process. They will consolidate all elements into a power point
presentation. Students are given a grading rubric for overall
performance expectations.
