This is an activity about prediction. How far can you hop in 5 seconds? Could you make it to the door? Across the room? Everyone lines up and tries it. As learners do this activity, they gain meaning for seconds by connecting them to movement: how far they can hop, jump, run, or crawl in that time. They also consider relationships among distance, time, and speed: if I can hop halfway across the room in 5 seconds, could I make it all the way across in 5 seconds if I run?
