Description
This resource is an online activity in which students use a java applet to explore the properties of regular polygons by creating their own tessellations. Students are asked to explain what they did to get their tessellation and to explore similar types of tessellations using pattern blocks. After exploring the tessellations created with only one equilateral triangle, students are asked to predict whether a square or a regular hexagon will tessellate. Finally, students are asked to predict and justify why other regular polygons will (or will not) tessellate regularly in the Euclidean plane. Less
