Description
This resource, offered by the Library of Congress' American Memory Web site, is a daguerrotype containing the portrait of Alfred Francis Russell. After growing up in Kentucky, Russell moved to Liberia in 1833. He was chosen as Vice President of Liberia in 1878 and became President in 1883. This site is referenced in the EDSITEment lesson "Before Brother Fought Brother: Life in the North and South 1847-1861."
