This lesson plan from National Geographic was created as a resource for Geography Action 2001, which is based on the theme of rivers. In this lesson, students will develop a definition of pollution, identify how people pollute water through nonpoint source pollution, and learn how to reduce nonpoint source pollution. The site also includes links to related National Geographic Web pages, teacher resources, US National Geography Standards, discussion questions, and extension activities. Join the National Geographic Society in protecting our greatest resource-the Earth-by "taking action" with hands-on conservation activities.
