Description

This resource, part of the MathCats Web site and reviewed for grades 3-5 by Illuminations, provides an applet that displays a random number of people, somewhere between 15 and 2,000. After a short pause, the user is asked to estimate the number of people shown, and scores are assigned based on the accuracy of the estimation. The interactive nature of the activity along with the immediate feedback makes this an engaging activity that would be difficult to duplicate with physical materials. To utilize the activities and student projects on this site requires the free, downloadable Microworlds plug-in, available at the MathCats Web site. Less
