More than ten years before Rosa Parks sat down on a Birmingham, Alabama, bus and refused to get up, and 15 years before Freedom Rides on segregated buses throughout the southern United States became a hallmark of the civil rights movement, a small group of black and white men boarded a bus for a very long ride.
