Description

Race and Slavery Petitions Project presents more than two dozen legislative and county court petitions that were filed in southern states between the American Revolution and the Civil War. Tens of thousands of southerners petitioned their legislatures for redress of grievances during this time. These petitions show the complex nature of race and slavery.
