Description
Creating French Culture traces the relationship of politics and culture in France, from Charlemagne to Charles de Gaulle, through 200 manuscripts, illustrations, coins, medals, letters, maps, hymnals, chant books, thrones, novels, paintings, and other artifacts. Items are organized into four periods: monarchs and monasteries (800 - 1500), the path to royal absolutism (1500 - 1650), the rise and fall of the absolute monarchy (1650 - 1800), from empire to democracy, (1800 - present).
