In this Illuminations lesson, students get a real feel of the meaning of negative and positive numbers using old batteries and a voltage sensor. Students explore addition of signed numbers by placing batteries end to end and calculate the sum of the batteries' voltages. There are links to an online interactive and activity sheet.
