Description
This winning entry in the Museum's Young Naturalist Awards 2004 by Dawn, a 13 year old student from Florida, examines gopher tortoises. Her essay (with photographs and references) discusses the three questions she sought answers to: What kind of survival skills do these tortoises have?, Is this reptile important to the ecosystem of Florida?, and Is the habitat gopher tortoises need to survive being destroyed? She reports on her field observations and follow-up research and her discovery that land development is a leading cause of tortoise death. Less
