Description
In this classroom activity, students explore how archaeologists assemble and decipher clues to a family's background. Each student creates a layered archaeological site with objects from three generations of his or her family. They then excavate a box created by one of their unidentified peers, sorting though the strata and drawing conclusions about the personality and family history of the box's creator. At the end, students see if they can guess who put the box together.
