Description
In this activity, students explore how environment shapes the choices a society makes. The activity begins with the statement that if a society does not engage in trade (for obtaining other resources), their choices will be shaped by their environment. Students, working in small groups, pretend they're 500 years back in time. Each group researches its assigned ecosystem and imagines what life would be like there. Then, students explore how trade (with its spread of resources and ideas) expands a society's range of options by studying the Nabataeans on the Petra exhibit's Web site. Less
