Charity Rowland and Philip Schweigert are associated with Design to Learn Projects of the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. They have conducted extensive research and demonstration projects on the development of communication and cognitive skills in individuals with severe disabilities. Widely published, they have developed, researched and applied pre-symbolic communication strategies and Tangible Symbol Systems™ with many children and adults who have severe communication disorders.
