The Winter Olympics could be accurately described as the "Slippery Olympics," in that nearly the all of the events--skiing, skating, sledding, and even curling--rely on the slippery nature of ice, whether it takes the form of hard flat frozen surfaces or the form of snow. This New York Times Science piece looks at some questions and answers offer by physicists about the curious nature of water in its solid form.
