Description
Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) is an informal alliance dedicated to shaping undergraduate STEM learning environments that attract students to STEM fields and inspire them to persist and succeed. PKAL recruits emerging leaders in undergraduate STEM education (known as the Project Kaleidoscope Faculty for the 21st Century) and provides them with opportunities for dialogue about critical issues and with expertise and support for efforts to transform their local learning environments. The PKAL web site hosts a wealth of reports and publications presented under seven themes: 1) institutional transformation (exploring what works in engaging the people, policies, and practices that make it happen); 2) the human infrastructure (exploring what works in nurturing STEM leaders, at all career stages); 3) the physical infrastructure (exploring what works in shaping spaces that support 21st-century STEM learning) 4) the academic program (exploring what works in undergraduate STEM courses, from the very first coruses for all students through capstone courses for majors); 4) the pedagogical tools (exploring what works in designing, implementing, and assessing teaching approaches that have an impact on student learning); 6) the national context (exploring the societal context for attending to the quality of undergraduate learning in STEM fields); and 7) the 21st-century student (exploring the nature of current and emerging generations). Additional materials at the web site include interviews, news articles, event announcements, and information on the various programs sponsored by the organization. Less
