Description

In this activity, learners explore the difference between taste and smell. Working in pairs, the volunteer eats a hard candy while holding his or her nose, and the assistant times for 60 seconds, asks questions of the volunteer, and records observations. The roles are then reversed. A facilitator's guide provides questions, explains what's going on, and suggests ideas for further inquiry. Background information about the chemistry of taste and smell is also provided.
