Description
This Library of Congress photo collection contains approximately 300 pictures taken between 1897 and 1928, most of them by Orville and Wilbur Wright themselves. About 200 views, dated between 1900 to 1911, document their experiments and trials with their new flying machines. Subjects include the brothers' planes and models, engines, workshops, the historic test site at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, early flights, and some of their accidents. There are also individual portraits and group pictures of the Wright brothers and their family and friends, as well as photos of their homes, other buildings, towns, and landscapes. The collection is searchable by key word, subject, title, name, and other parameters. Photos may be downloaded in several formats and resolutions. Prints and CD-ROMS are available for purchase. Less
