Description
The David Rumsey Collection features historical atlases, globes, school geographies, maritime charts, and individual maps of several types. Its primary focus is on 18th and 19th century maps of the Americas, but it also includes maps of the world, Asia, Africa, Europe, and Oceania. The collection can be viewed using either the Insight browser, Insight Java client, a GIS viewer that permits two-or three-dimensional viewing, or a Flash-based thumbnail viewer. The web site features a directory that is browseable in several modes, including map type, location, cartographer, year, or an alphabetical listing. Each entry is accompanied by an image of the map and a record that includes author, date, title, publisher, object dimensions, scale, and other types of cataloguing information. Other site materials include an overview of the collection and its internet technology, information on recent additions, and information on purchasing reproductions. Less
