Description

This online exhibit recognizes the life and work of Dr. Linus Pauling. Materials include information on his childhood in Oregon and his college career at Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University) and the California Institute of Technology. There are also discussions of his research on the nature of the chemical bond, for which he won the 1954 Nobel Prize for chemistry, and of his pacifism and opposition to atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons, for which he won the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize. Other materials include discussions of his work on sickle-cell anemia, the alpha-helix model for protein molecules, and his late-career research into the physiological effects of nutrients at the molecular level.
