In this activity, students are introduced to "the relationships among changes in volume, mass, and density." In it, students fill different sized boxes with different materials, illustrating the measurement concepts of mass, volume, and density, and how they change with the contents of the boxes change. The activity is intended for students who are blind, but it is an excellent activity for all students to help them grasp the difficult concept of density. On this page, visitors will find a printable version of the activity, the purpose, background information, preparation with an example data chart that students will generate, materials needed, and step-by-step instructions.
