Ms. Bithell follows up on the rectangle problem by having the students work through the following textbook problem:
View the video clip in which Ms. Bithell and the class review the solution to the Egyptian monument problem.
The textbook shows an answer of 5.36 inches. However, it is not common to see decimals such as 5.36 used in describing inches. Rather, because of the way rulers are designed, we are used to seeing such numbers as 8 1/2 inches or 7 3/4 inches. For example, 8.25 inches is commonly written 8 1/4 inches.
