Introduction

locomotiveMany children's toys, art and landscaping features are real-life examples of the concept of proportional reasoning They all used scale models, models of real objects that have exactly the same shape and proportions as the original object, but are a different overall size. A scale is the fraction that tells how the size of the model compares to the real object.

After careful analysis, we have developed three big ideas that will help us to get to the heart of scale:

  • Proportional reasoning,hearts of scale
  • Creating and reading scale models, and
  • Determining the scale of an object.
