# The Race is On

We've tried to capture a few "moments" in the lesson in the following brief clips. Note that Ms. Barney planned a few twists to the plot. (... it seems that speed isn't the only element critical to the race...direction is also a critical concern!)

Please watch the following three clips to get a feel for the lesson.

Monkey Questions

• Round 1: At a rate of 8 miles per hour, the monkey ran for ¼ hour. How far did he go?
• Round 2: At a rate of 10 miles per hour, the monkey ran for 12 minutes. How far did he go?
• Round 3: The monkey went in reverse 3.5 miles at 10.5 miles per hour. How long did it take?
• Round 4: The monkey turned on the jets in the right direction 3 miles for 12 minutes. What was the monkey's rate of speed?
• Round 5: The monkey ran for 6 minutes at 10 miles per hour. At what mile marker is he standing?

Penguin Questions

• Round 1: At a rate of 2 miles per hour, the penguin ran for ¼ hour. How far did he go?
• Round 2: At a rate of 5 miles per hour, the penguin ran for 12 minutes. How far did he go?
• Round 3: The penguin increased his speed to 6 miles per hour and traveled 2 miles. How long did it take?
