Best Practices Strategies Overview

Best Practices In Action...

English learners at the 6-8 grade level are especially challenging since the level of academic English that is required for success in the middle grades is more complex and abstract than it is at the early elementary grades.

Most teachers experience two different types of English learners at these grade levels. The first is students that have been attending school in the district for their school career and have not yet managed to acquire English. The second is newly arrived English learners that need to learn conversational English, academic English and master content standards. The diversity of language levels of English learners at this stage requires targeted strategies that help support EL student learning with both language and content objectives.

The strategies that are outlined in this module work effectively with both types of English learners. Teachers will recognize in the following videos how to use these effective strategies with all of their students in their classroom.
