After viewing the media on the previous page, think about the following questions:

 

  • What affirmed the things you already do in your instructional practice? What was new for you, or what was done in a different way than you’re familiar with?
  • In what ways do the instructional practices you viewed support language and literacy development for English learners? How might the teachers use the CA ELD Standards as a guide to provide appropriate levels of scaffolding for English learners at different English language proficiency levels?
  • What instructional practices might you try out in your own classroom? How would you adjust the practices to ensure you’re meeting the needs of your English learners, and in particular, the focal student you identified in Unit 1?
     

Record your thoughts in the Reflection Journal or discuss them with your colleagues, either face-to-face or in an online community of practice.
