Designated ELD: A protected time during the day when teachers use the CA ELD Standards as the focal standards in ways that build into and from content instruction. |
In “integrated ELD,” all teachers with English learners in their classrooms use the CA ELD Standards in tandem with their CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy and other content standards to provide a world-class education for all students. In “designated ELD,” teachers use the CA ELD Standards as the focal standards in order to support their English learners to develop English — with a particular focus on academic English — in ways that build into and from content instruction.
