1.1 History/Social Studies and the Shared Responsibility for Literacy

The California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects (CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy) emphasize the need for literacy to be a shared responsibility across all disciplines, including history/social studies. This emphasis is represented throughout the document and is an essential component of 21st century learning. In the content areas, these standards should be taught in conjunction with the content standards for each course.
