Students’ Use of Data

Setting the Stage: Things assessment-literate educators do to set the stage for student reflection and goal setting:

  • Provide regular, uninterrupted time for students to think about their progress.
  • Nurture a culture of inquiry in the classroom, where mistakes are viewed as vehicles for learning, self-assessment, and problem solving.
  • Model the behavior and attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Reward students for being self-correcting and monitoring their own learning
  • Create a positive classroom climate around reviewing assessment results–errors are helpful opportunities for learning rather than failures.
