Key Concepts in Accurately Measuring Student Performance

Educators need accurate and relevant student performance information on which to make instructional decisions. To give this information, the assessments must be of high quality. The quality of classroom assessments rests on three key concepts: reliability, validity, and fairness. Assessment-literate educators may not apply knowledge of these concepts on a daily basis, but they need to be aware of them.
