Read through the following two resources on analyzing the author's purpose for meeting Reading Standard 6.

The Critical Thinking Community article How to Study and Learn provides a explanations and templates that explain how to evaluate an author’s reasoning. There are other topics on this page also, including How to Analyze the Logic of an Article, Essay, or Chapter, and The Logic of a Textbook.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has lessons available online through “LearnNC” such as the one titled, “Determining the Author's Purpose: Analyzing a Recruitment Video”. Notice how by analyzing a video, students are also addressing CCR Anchor Standard 7, as shown below:
