Now let's take a closer look at Anchor Standards 1 through 3. You will notice that the standards ask students to master three basic forms of writing: writing arguments, writing to inform and explain, and writing narratives. The CCSS place increasing emphasis on analytical writing (argument, informing, and explaining) and decreasing emphasis on narrative writing as students advance through the grades.
