Role of the Support Provider

To provide individualized coaching support and formative assessment for the Participating Teacher assigned to you in the Butte County BTSA Induction Program in accordance with the Quality Standards for the Professional Credential Induction Program. Thank you for your involvement with this program.

Continuing Responsibilities for the Support Provider (include but are not limited to)


  • Complete the Butte County BTSA Induction enrollment online and state consent form ( annually
  • Signed copy of Support Provider Roles and Responsibilities in your files


  • Attend all Support Provider trainings one day (all providers) and two four hour (providers w/ 3 years or less experience) and informational meetings
  • Attend one Portfolio Review (January or May) per two years
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly seminars and Colloquium with your Participating Teacher
  • Meet weekly with your Participating Teacher(s) for a minimum of one hour each week
  • Maintain monthly Collaborative Log documenting meetings and support and assessment activities and submit to BTSA staff monthly


  • Inform your Participating Teacher about his/her involvement in the Induction Program and provide formative feedback regarding progress toward completion of program
  • Support your Participating Teacher in accumulating evidence of professional growth in relation to the state-adopted academic content standards, performance levels for students, the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, and the Induction Standards
  • Support your Participating Teacher in maintaining a Completion Log documenting completion of activities leading to the recommendation of the Participating Teacher for the professional teaching credential
  • Guide the development of the Participating Teacher’s Individual Induction Plan (IIP)
  • Complete and document formative assessment and support activities (Note: Formative assessment information is confidential and is the property of the Participating Teacher and Butte County BTSA Induction Program. It is not to be shared with Site Administrators for evaluative purposes.)
  • Conduct formal and informal classroom observations a minimum of twice each year and provide specific feedback to your Participating Teacher (Document and use the equivalent of four full days release time per year.)
  • Schedule informal meetings with the Site Administrator(s) and your Participating Teacher, keeping the administrator apprised of program requirements and activities



Support Providers are compensated per Participating Teacher for their time and expertise by their school district.

Support Provider receipt of full stipend is dependent upon meeting Roles and Responsibilities. Attendance with Participating Teacher at monthly seminars is critical.  Additionally, your attendance at Support Provider Training(s) and informational meeting(s) is essential to ensure you are providing the best support to your Participating Teacher.  Each missed seminar /training/informational meeting may result in a $300 reduction of your stipend.

Special Circumstances

If for any reason you and your Participating Teacher are not working together effectively, please contact your Site Administrator, Professional Development Facilitator, Policy Council Member, or the Program Administrator immediately. The chart below outlines the minimum participation requirements for Support Providers enrolled in the Butte County BTSA Induction Program.  It is the expectation of the program, as well as your sponsoring district, that you meet all of the program requirements.  The state and your district have made a significant financial commitment to each teacher enrolled in this program.  In addition, if you are applying for university units from CSU – Chico, the minimum requirement for completion of six (6) units is ninety (90) hours.




21 hours

Cohort Seminars: Support Providers must attend seven (7) Monthly Seminars with his/her Participating Teacher.  Documentation is included on your Accountability Report.

32 hours

Formative Assessment Activities:  Spend a minimum of 32 hours over the course of the year meeting with your Participating Teacher, completing NECTEC LAS Inquiries, Reflective Records, and BTSA surveys. Additionally, your Participating Teacher is expected to observe colleagues, implement his/her IIP and reflect on his/her own growth as a teacher. Spend time outside of monthly seminars to help him/her gather information for Inquiries and to meet goals he/she developed on his/her IIP.     Documentation is included on the Collaborative Log.

18 hours

Consulting, Coaching, and Collaborating with Participating Teacher: As a mentor, you will communicate with your Participating Teacher in a variety of ways (e.g., electronically, personally) that may not be specifically related to NECTEC LAS. Documentation is included on the Collaborative Log.

1.5 hour

Triad Conference:  Support your Participating Teacher through a triad meeting with you, your PT, and Site Administrator to go over any areas your PT wants to discuss (e.g., growth goals, formative assessment activities).  Documentation is included on the Triad Conference.

6 hours

Formal Observation/Assessment with Participating Teacher: Twice during the year, once in the fall and once in the spring, observe a lesson to help guide your Participating Teacher’s self-assessment of his/her teaching.  Documentation is included on the Collaborative Log.

9 hours

Support Provider Growth: Document your growth as a Support Provider on the Support Provider Descriptions of Practice and work with program facilitators to identify resources that can provider you with the necessary skills to support your Participating Teacher. Documentation is included on your Support Provider Plan of Action.

2.5 hours

End of the Year Seminar or Colloquium: Year 1 Participating Teachers and Support Providers share successes of first year during the last seminar. Year 2 Participating Teachers and Support Providers attend Colloquium.  Documentation is included on your Accountability Report.
