The first of the following two videos focuses on writing in notebooks: notes from reading, observations and data tables from the experiments, and writing summary statements. Eventually these pieces of writing can be used to write an informative text. The second video focuses on building a word wall of academic vocabulary and peer editing. The videos illustrate activities that integrate CA CCSS Writing Standards with the science content and investigation.

As you view the lesson, observe the different writing activities in which students are engaged.

Note: Several weeks after the learning sequence shown in the video, and as a conclusion to the study of chemical reactions, students wrote an informative report (WHST6-8.2) comparing chemical and physical changes.
