Pathways for English Learners’ Expression of Ideas and Academic Language

Speaking and listening are precursors to writing. Providing English learners with opportunities to teach to each other (SL8.1) allows students to rehearse their ideas, and to refine and revise these ideas through conversation (collaboration) before writing. Cite two pieces of evidence from the video that showed students involved in collaborative conversations.


Academic Language

This lesson included some academic vocabulary with which English learners are likely to be familiar. To collaborate, certain academic vocabulary is important for students to know, while other vocabulary and/or concepts will be learned during instruction.
