Sources of Assessment Data

The Sources of Assessment Data graphic was introduced in Unit 5. It illustrates the varying frequency and duration of teaching-assessment cycles, from annual assessments at the base of the cone to minute-by-minute assessments at the very tip. This section addresses an assessment strategy that is effective for shorter-cycle, daily, and minute-by-minute formative assessment. Checking for understanding provides useful assessment information for adjusting instruction in real time.
