Learning Sequence

Take a moment to analyze the eighth grade teacher’s planning for student learning. Her planning includes identifying the conceptual flow of the science content and aligning specific CA CCSS ELA/Literacy and science content standards to increase student understanding. The teacher plans to teach multiple CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy standards across several days of instruction with appropriate scaffolding.

The eighth grade teacher developed a six-day learning sequence in which she wanted her students to understand the differences between physical and chemical changes, as well as evidence that support whether something changes physically or chemically.  Students need to understand the differences between physical and chemical change from observations during experiments as well as from the world outside of the classroom. The teacher engaged students in classroom discussion, writing, and reading.

Read the teacher’s learning sequence template, and then respond to the reflection questions.
