What do you notice about the spiral effect of the standards? What implications might this have for your work with students?
The standards seem to be clearly and intentionally aligned across grades, with one year building on the previous one. Before it was hard to see how to make the connections between grades. Hopefully this will encourage vertical teams at my school to discuss how to develop skills throughout the grades. Also, we can track students’ skill development as they progress throughout the school and collaborate on what works for students who are behind or ahead.
How can history/social studies help you meet these standards?
I can use my history/social studies textbook to and have students ask and answer questions, determine main ideas and key details, summarize, and trace events through time and with cause and effect.
