Describe the type of instructional interventions you might teach to improve student understanding in these areas.
Based on student work, the teacher recognized that many students had a grasp of the academic vocabulary, but could not write generalized properties of all liquids (flow and take the shape of their container). Students also had limited skills in writing any type of introduction of the topic or closure. She chose to restructure her sentence frames to include a prompt for writing an introduction and conclusion. In addition, she realized most of her lesson plan focused on individual properties with limited use of properties shared by all liquids. She noted in her reflection that she would use discussion prompts to scaffold student knowledge of the generalization by sorting liquids using a Venn diagram to highlight shared properties.
