The student prompt is, “What do you know about liquids?” Based on information students would have recorded in their science notebooks, the teacher would actually develop an answer to the prompt that a successful student might provide. Following is an example:

All liquids flow and take the shape of the container. Liquids can be described by their properties. Some liquids have different colors. Some are transparent and you can see through them. Others are translucent, blocking some of the light.  Some are viscous which means they pour slowly.  No matter what different properties liquids have, all liquids flow and take the shape of the container.
