Research and assess how specific dance works change because of the impact of historic and cultural influences on their interpretations (e.g., because of the loss of lives in war, Fancy Dancing, once performed only by men, is now also performed by women).

Lesson Idea:

In an advanced dance class, students choose from a list of examples of dances to research and perform. Through the use of many resources in their research, both written, audio, and video, they find and cite evidence of the selected dance's historical and cultural impact and how its purpose and style has changed over time. The students then develop a multimedia presentation to share with the class, which synthesizes the information and supports their conclusions.
